The simple F7 chord shape (F dominant 7) is played using the first four strings of the guitar. It is the same shape as the common F chord shape, with the added 4th finger on the 2nd string. It is arguably easier than the standard F chord shape, as it does not require the ‘mini-bar’ of the first finger. The image below contains the musical notation, chord chart, tabs and scale degrees for the common F7 chord.

How to play the open F7 chord
- Place your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the 4th string.

- Place your 4th finger on the 4th fret of the 2nd string.
