How to play the open Em7 chord shape

  • Place your 1st finger on the 2nd fret of the 5th string.
  • Place your 2nd finger on the 2nd fret of the 4th string.
  • Place your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the 2nd string.
  • Place your 4th finger on the 3rd fret of the 1st string.
  • Strum all six strings.

E minor 7 (easy open shape) info

  • This shape is the open Em7 chord.
  • It is similar to the open Em chord, with the 3rd and 4th fingers added.
  • It contains the notes (from the 6th string down) E, B, E, G, D and G.
  • It contains the 1 (root), 5, 1, b3, 5 and b3 in the key of E.
