Ab Chord (Easy, Medium and Hard)

Here are three ways to play the C chord (easy, medium and hard). The easy version involves barring three strings (on the first fret). The medium version is a root-6 barre chord, played on the 4th fret. The hard version is the moveable ‘C shape’, with the 1st finger barring the first three strings of the 4th fret.

Easy Version (how to play)

  • Barre the 1st fret (2nd, 3rd and 4th strings).
  • Strum the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings.

Medium Version (how to play)

  • 1st finger barres all strings on the 4th fret.
  • Place your 3rd finger on the 6th fret of the 5th string.
  • Place your 4th finger on the 6th fret of the 4th string.
  • Place your 2nd finger on the 5th fret of the 3rd string.
  • Strum all six strings.

Hard Version (how to play)

  • 1st finger barres the 8th fret (1st, 2nd and 3rd strings).
  • Place your 4th finger on the 11th fret of the 5th string.
  • Place your 3rd finger on the 10th fret of the 4th string.
  • Place your 2nd finger on the 9th fret of the 2nd string.
  • Strum strings 5 to 1.
